One of the things about Italy that I missed the most while living in US was the constant presence of the past. Everywhere you go in Italy history of distant dominations and civilizations survives the distructive labor of time generating landscapes that are unique in the world.

Come to the Middle East and see that there are buildings and structures thousands of years older than what you have in Italy.
